The 1920s Dapper

from £77.00

As we enter the 1920s, women have secured significant rights, including the right to vote in the UK and the freedom to remain single. Although they are not yet fully integrated into society, they are persevering. Unafraid to defy convention, they reject corsets, smoke, and live life on their own terms. This portrait honours the women of the 1920s who were instrumental in the Quiet Rebellion, making a bold statement through their fashion choices and embracing their independence.

This project is part of Women in Quiet Rebellion. This project aims to give a voice to women who didn't have one throughout history, and to the ways they had to learn to rebel "quietly" from the place society gave them, accepting their lot and feeling under pressure to conform. Their only form of escapism was to rebel inside, moving things slowly like a butterfly's wings, creating a snowballing effect across history. This project reflects the story of all these women who could not use their voices.
